Snip, snip

We took Dominic to get his first haircut on Saturday. Our friend Alison offered to give him a trim, but she was out of town this weekend and we thought it would be fun to take him to a kid salon for the first cut.

Before pictures:
He was really interested in his sandals
Tail!
The cut:
Kids Are Our Specialty
It's a good thing we were early, because there was some business to take care of before going in.
Waiting and observing
They had him sit in a bumbo chair. Smart!
Child-sized cape.

He totally does a mouth thing when he stressed! Kind of like his Grandpa's neck thing. Emmy and I get a kick out of this.

I don't think he smiled the whole time. That's our boy.

The result.
I don't want to say that I'm disappointed with the result, but I did think there would be some magical solution to the bangs/cowlick thing he has going on in the front. Not so! I asked her to leave his hair kind of long (so curls can develop) so of course the bangs have to be relatively long too.  They are kind of combed over to the side in this picture. I wish I had more post-cut pictures. It looks nice and clean around the ears, and the tail is better. The stylist said he will always get a tail because of the way his hair grows in the back, and she gave me tips for trimming it at home.

Last but not least: the Hadzicki's sent us these darling little keepsake boxes when Dominic was born. I can't believe it's already time to use one of them!!

I love it!

My Mom Went to Iowa and All I Got Was...

These really cool sunglasses! Spider-man aviators. You can't get much cooler than this.  Gotta love Walgreens.

What happened to my baby?

Dominic has been looking pretty mature lately!

Does this boy need a haircut or what?

His game, his rules

Dominic invented a game that we sometimes play while he's eating. We were playing the other day, and went back and forth several times (you'll see what I mean in the video).  I got the camera and asked Emmy to film us, and the sneaky guy changed the rules on me.

The end is so funny. I think that was a little rant about how he was trying to eat, followed by a half second of self-soothing with the thumb.

We Have a Crawler

Dominic started crawling mid-week, just before hitting 10 months. It seems like he hasn't figured out that he can roam the house now and go anywhere he wants.  He always stays in the room where he is set down. I'm sure that will change!

Here's a video I took today.

Another Food Post

Babies are so expressive. I think actors should study them as examples of real emotion. When we play our Baby Einstein DVD for Dominic, his jaw literally drops when the caterpillar comes on the screen at the very beginning.  His reactions are so genuine, it's quite endearing.

I've thought about this before, and I was reminded of it today when I looked at pictures I took of Dominic during a huge milestone he had this afternoon.  The boy had his first Cheerios! He is now a true American baby.  Here's how it went:
And the verdict: "Like!"

He seemed a little less excited about his dinner of chicken, carrots and green beans.  But don't be fooled by this picture. He ate it all!

And after Dominic went to bed, Marcos, Emmy and I enjoyed these grilled pork chops with Greek pasta salad:
