The Halloween that Almost Wasn't

I bought Dominic's Halloween costume at least two weeks ago, in preparation for his sister arriving and making our lives hectic.  (She still has not).   Since then, I have never been able to get him to try it on.  Emmy, YiaYia and I talked to him about it all day today, explaining that you have to wear a costume if you want the neighbors to give you candy.  We offered candy if he would practice trick-or-treating with the costume on, but he refused.  I was sure 2012 was going to be the year of no costume, but we were in for a pleasant surprise!

Emmy carved one of the pumpkins from the pumpkin patch.

After dinner we put the pumpkin outside and waited for trick-or-treaters.
I was desperate to get some pictures of him by the pumpkin since I didn't think he would wear his costume.
We let him have a few pieces of candy and then told him he couldn't have any more.
Next thing I knew, he ran into the house and came out looking like this!  Emmy was inside at the time, and said he ran in, grabbed the costume and said "Pumpkin shirt on!"
So of course we had to give him more candy, after making promises all day.

He started his bucket with a few pieces from our stash.
Then Emmy took him to several neighboring houses, where he happily collected more treats.
He shouted "Candy!" at the prospect of more trick-or-treating, then hit up some more houses with Dada.
Family pics!

He quickly ditched the costume and ran inside when I told him no more candy but he could get a drink of milk before bed.
Looking for more kids before bed.
And now I need to go to bed, since we are going to the hospital tomorrow to have this baby!

Halloween Pumpkin Cookies

Why not make and decorate Halloween cookies when you're 39 weeks pregnant and have an active toddler?  That's what I did this weekend.  And now I think we are officially ready for Halloween, no matter what interruptions we have in the days to come. We have a costume and candy bucket for the boy, a bag of candy for trick-or-treaters, we've visited the pumpkin patch, and we have now frosted Halloween cookies.

Marcos helped make the dough Friday night.  Dominic "helped" roll out and bake the cookies Saturday morning.  And today we finally got around to frosting them.

Keeping Mama company Saturday morning:

Dominic got to make himself a cookie after lunch on Sunday:

During nap time, I added the rest of the embellishments.  I even made Dominic a Goldbug cookie.  It's his favorite character from Richard Scarry.  I was so excited to show him when he woke up, and he started making buzzing sounds when he saw it. He thought it was a bee!

I got down to the last three eyeballs before I noticed I had an odd number.  I wondered what kind of cyclops cookie I could make with the last one. Then it came to me: Blinky!

Pumpkin Patch 2012

Today we took Dominic to the pumpkin patch at St. John's United Methodist Church.  It's the same one Emmy and I took him to last year.   Here are the pics from last year; he couldn't even walk yet! I knew that he'd be all about the playground this year.  The pics below that are with pumpkins are the result of us carrying him off the play structure and making him look at pumpkins.

Maybe our last pic as a family of 3?
Hands on sister

What do you mean no more playground?
Oh what a cruel world!
Representative of our sizes and our hairstyles, haha.
